Burst Vericose Vein With Large Black And Blue Bruise, Sore Area, Painful To Walk. Have Vericose And Spider Veins. Serious?

I suffer from vericose and spider veins. This weekend I hosted my neices bridal shower and noticed by the end of the evening that the vericose vein that protrudes the most had burst and left a large black and blue. The area was very sore and ached when I walked on it. Currently, It is not as painful but still black and blue and I have to fly overseas for my job this weekend. Can I wait to look into this when I return or is this a urgent matter?

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Although it is not a very urgent matter, you have to show it to your family physician/surgeon for an early treatment of varicose veins, which involves some invasive procedure. In the mean time, you should avoid prolonged standing, and apply a pressure bandage/pressure garment meant for such conditions, and may consider taking an anti inflammatory drug to reduce any residual inflammation. You should also stop any anti platelet medication if you do on consultation with your physician, and must avoid any trauma to the part.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear your doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
