Can Citalopram Cause Excessive Sleep?

I am on citalopram. for my high anxiety... well it also helps with my depression also. I was just wondering what would cause me to start over sleeping again? I used to sleep 12+ hours, that's when I was put on this medication... and I just moved and very home sick and I've been sleeping alot more... and ideas as to what's going on?

Any anti-depressant medicine, actually inhibits thought process thereby inhibiting the energetic activity of the brain. This results in feeling heavy and sleepy. Sleeping more is a common facet of SSRIs. If you think you are sleeping too much and it hinders your job, please request your psychiatrist to lessen the dose.
