Can Dianette Taken As The Treatment Of Acne Interfere With The Periods?

I have been on dianette for 3 months for the treatment of mild acne. I had a light period the 1 st month on my 7 day break. Didnt have a period on the next 7 day break in month 2. Now coming to the end of the 3rd pack and still no period. I have done a pregnancy test and the result was negative. Can dianette stop your periods? And is this ok for your body? Thanking you in advance Natalie

HI,

I have read your question and I understand your concern. Missing your period while taking birth control pills is usually no reason for alarm. Dianette and other birth-control pills introduce new hormones in your organism, which can affect your menstrual cycle by stopping your periods.

But there are also other reasons why you can miss your period, such as stress, excessive exercise and dietary changes. If I were your doctor, I would address the aforementioned causes first, since you already did a pregnancy test which ruled out this possibility. Next I would change the treatment of mild acne from Dianette to topical agents. Cleansers such as Benzoyl Peroxide or Salycilic Acid work very well in most cases with mild acne.In the end, if you are interested in taking birth control pills, I would consider switching to another pill which would work better with your body.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
