Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a woman with PCOS, currently taking yaz. I have used it before and my face has pretty much cleared up for over a year already. i stopped taking yaz january of this year without experiencing any prominent breakouts but just this month, i had a breakout and it s progressively getting worse. they appear pus-filled and inflamed and clustered together and they hurt. i have started taking yaz again and i m now on my second week but so far i ve seen no difference with regard to my acne. is this due to my hormonal imbalance or is this a side effect of my pills?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Yes, Yaz (also known as Yasmin) medication can have side effects. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headaches, breast tenderness, bloating, and changes in weight or appetite. It is also possible that Yaz may worsen acne in some individuals, though it is generally used to treat acne in women with PCOS.
If you are experiencing worsening acne while taking Yaz, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider. They may recommend a different medication or suggest other treatment options to help manage your symptoms. It is also possible that your acne may be related to your hormonal imbalance, so your healthcare provider may want to evaluate and address this as well.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
