Hallow Baby,
In normal course, the egg release takes place 14 days before the next expected menstrual period. The egg has a life of 24 hours while the sperms are active for 72 hours. Hence, a period of about on week around the day of egg release is fertile period. Of course this rule is applicable for those who get their menses regularly. Hence, an
unprotected intercourse just two days before the expected menses should not cause pregnancy.
You have dropped the birth control pills 3 weeks ago. Immediately after discontinuing the pills, egg release may be irregular. Hence calculation of the exact day of ovulation may go wrong.
Your periods were on the lighter side and the pregnancy tests were light positive (weak positive). This happens in case if the pregnancy is implanted somewhere outside the
uterine cavity. However, the bleeding in ectopic pregnancy is associated with severe pain. Still weak positive pregnancy test with lighter bleeding does demand investigations for ectopic pregnancy.
Please undergo
ultrasonography. If pregnancy is visualized in the uterine cavity, it is not an ectopic pregnancy. Then since you do not want to continue this pregnancy (I presume), you may get the pregnancy terminated by Tab. Mifepristone + Tab. Misoprostol by Obstetrician's advice.
However, if pregnancy is not visualized in the uterine cavity and the pregnancy tests are (weak) positive; there are chances of ectopic pregnancy. It can be confirmed by
Laparoscopy. If it is unruptured ectopic pregnancy, it can be managed through
Laparoscopic surgery or conservatively by
Methotrexate.
After rupture, ectopic pregnancy bleeds heavily. It then requires surgical intervention with many units of
blood transfusion. So please report to your Gynaecologist and get the issue sorted out ASAP.
I hope you got the message clearly.
