Can I Have Multiple Intrauterine Fibroids Removed By Vaginal Myomectomy Or Need Laparoscopic Myomectomy?
Hi. I have got multiple intra-utrine fibroids. Their sizes are 3cm and below. My question is, can I have them removed by vaginal myomectomy or do I need a laproscopic myomectomy? What are the chances? By what type of test (USG or plain MRI or contrast MRI)? Is there specific test I need to do to determine my option? I really want to do vaginally to avoid scars and everything else Post-Op complications. I am only 30 and newly married. So I am looking into concieving soon. On the other hand, the fibroids have been very disturbing as I cannot enjoy marital intimacy as the fibroid excert pressure on my internal organs. Please help.
Whenever possible, it is best to have the fibroids removed either vaginally or laparoscopically, and not with open surgery. However, exactly how yours should be removed needs to be determined by your gynecologic surgeon by physical exam, ultrasound, and often an MRI. Then he/she will be able to determine the safest and moist effective route to remove your fibroids. based on your description it sounds like you will need to have them removed before you try to conceive, but that is not always the case. But in your case, since they are intrauterine, you almost certainly do need to have them removed before you get pregnant.
Intrauterine fibroids can often be removed vaginally through hysteroscopy, but if they are large, or if they in vade through the uterine wall, they sometimes require laparoscopy. This can only be determined with the proper tests like I described above. I hope this helps! Good luck!
