Hi and thanks for the query.
I understand your query and concern. There is no specific treatment for
diabetes during
pregnancy except
insulin and diet control.
It is advisable to keep the sugar levels under proper control for three months preconception to avoid effects on the baby. Pregnancy itself increases sugar and hence doses of insulin may need to be increased during pregnancy.
It is difficult to say that the baby will have diabetes. You can protect it from your high sugar levels but it is impossible to say what genes he will inherit [if that is what you mean].
More frequent visit to the obstetrician and more frequent blood sugar monitoring is needed during pregnancy. Chances of abortions and congenital defects are slightly more in diabetics with uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Get a
Hemoglobin A1c tested in the first trimester to estimate peri conception sugar levels.
These are the main issues that must be kept in mind while planning a pregnancy.
Do not worry. Discuss everything with your doctor once more and go ahead.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
