Hi Doc, im 38 yrs of age, female... i would like to ask a treatment regarding irregular menstruation. i ve been suffering this since my first periods and i consulted already an obygyne regarding this matter then they gave me medicine (provera 10mg) to keep it in cycle but if i dont drink medicine it will not come. until now same problem i had. i ask in pharmacy if they could give me provera but sad to know its not available in the market anymore instead they advice me to take duphaston 10mg. my question is, is it possible to take this medicine without any side effects? how much dossage shall i take everyday and for how many days it will last?
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
Provera and duphaston both are progesterone with similar drug profile and side effects. You can take 10 mg twice daily from day 11 to 25 of the cycle. Treatment should be maintained for at least 3-6 consecutive cycles. It ll be ideal if you consult your gynecologist and then start treatment. Serious side effects are not expected. Breakthrough bleeding may occur in a few patients. Nausea, breast tenderness, headache, bloated feeling, transient dizziness and skin reactions may occur occasionally. Take care
