Hi Dr.Samuel, ahve a question in reagrds to Mirena, my first one fell out after 2 years and I had almost 6 months of bleeding at the beginning, now I inserted the new one and the bleeding is even worst, my Doc. prescribed Megestrol 40 mg twice a day, but it seems that it doesnt help or even getting it worst. I see the side effects of the drug as unexpected bleeding...I don t quite understand why the drug for breast cancer patients was prescribed for me?
Megestrol has an anti hormonal effect and decreases the endometrial thickness thus decreasing the bleeding. You can get Mirena removed in case the problem is persistent.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
