Can Back Surgery Cause Constant Pain?
My dad had back surgery for a buldging disk. He now has 4 pins in his back. He is diabetic and has some nerve damage. He went home and fell about a week later. He was sent to 2 different rehab centers because he can no longer walk. It's been 2 months now since the surgery and he is still unable to stand for 30 seconds and cannot walk at all. Could the back surgery have gone wrong? He was walking fine before the surgery. I don't like to see him suffer. He is in constant pain and is on neurotin and oxy's among other drugs. Do you have any sugguestions on what we can do to help him?

It is simply a case of FAILED BACK SURGERY SYNDROME. Numerous causes are listed in the literature. You should go to a good interventional pain physician to diagnose the current cause of pain like arachnoiditis, facet arthropathy, wrong surgery, nerve damage etc. Also he can suggest you medical as well as interventional management of this severe pain.
