Can Colonoscopy Done After An Age Create Any Unseen Problems?

I had my last colonoscopy 10 years ago, and was told to have another in 10 years. It is now time, and I am afraid of the risks. Ten years ago, I had a healthy report with no problems, polyps, etc. But, I am now 76 years old and do not want to repeat the test for fear of puncture.

What should I do?

Hi,
Colonoscopy is indicated in the elderly to look for any asymptomatic diseases in the colon. Early diagnosis helps in early and prompt treatment, less cost and reduced time of hospital admission.
It will also reduce your worries of any tumors/ polyps in your colon.
Risk of puncture is negligible compared to the possibility of cancer at this age.

Serious adverse risk is 2.8/1000 population according to latest studies. Discuss with your doctor and ask for a recommendation of another specialist if you have doubts about the current one.
If you still have any further queries, Happy to help again.
