Can Cracked Rib Causes Problems In Breathing?

Hi
A year ago I woke one morning coughed before i got up out of bed and heard a loud crack, I went too the doctor who told me i cracked a rib, then a month ago i had a chest xray, i got a phone call lastweek from the consultant telling me i have afractured rib , i have no pain at present but feel short of breathe and tired all the time, I suffer from C.O.P.D so dont know if the breathlessness is from that or the cracke rib site.
Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi dear. Thanks for writing on HCM.
Cracked rib normally causes intense pain and this normally increases with movement of your chest.Does your pain increase when you inhale or exhale. If no, then this can be due to underlying disease such as COPD which can lead to lung infection.I were to repeat chest X-ray to rule underlying infection since some amount of healing would have taken place in a month's time.
