Can Fingernail Cracks Cause Brain Tumors?
my mother has been diagnosed with brain tumors...the doctors are all baffled as to where the cancer is eminating from....tests have been carired out on all organs of her body and no sign of any lumps have been found.....she has had 3 cat scans and 4 MRI s in the last 6 weeks..she has had one of 5 tumors removed ...4 weeks ago....and the docs mentioned something about cracks in her fingernails relating to a possible origin of the disease....can you give me some info on this???

Cracks in the fingernails is a possible side effect of chemotherapy, but I've never heard it arise as a symptom of an ongoing malignacy, at least it isn't specific. Cracks can arise from malnutrition too. Let the physician examine her more thoroughly.
However it can be a melanoma arising beneath the nail, that can cause cracks. It can be it but it's an unusual case.

Your mother's brain tumors are possibly metastases from subungual Melanoma, a skin malignant tumor that rarely is located on nail beds distorting or cracking nails. Hope this answers your question.
