Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Regarding your concern, I would explain that betablockers may reduce heart palpitations as well as diltiazem. Coming to this point, it is OK To switch to a betablocker like propranolol or metoprolol, which may also help calm anxiety and improve your situation (as cardiac arrhythmia is excluded). I would also recommend checking thyroid hormone levels to exclude thyroid gland dysfunction as a possible cause of cardiac palpitations.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hi,
Fast-beating heart episodes are likely heart palpitations. Wide variety of factors may cause heart palpitation. Medications, excessive exercise, stress or medical conditions (heart problems or endocrine diseases) may trigger heart palpitations. If the episode of palpitation is a few seconds to minutes duration without any other symptoms it does not need medical attention.
The diagnosis should be confirmed with continuous heart monitoring (Holter monitoring). Beta blockers are the first choice to treat heart palpitations.
