Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a male, 17 year old with prehypertension. I am a vegetarian who excercises often and eats healthy aswell. My weight is 122 pounds and 5 foot 8. High blood pressure runs on one side of my family, but my question is, is this normal for me to have hypertension and will i be able to swim at my school with prehypertension?
Dear Sir Thanks for your query to us. Pre-hypertension is a stage prior to hypertension , it does not indicate presence of disease but high risk of developing disease in future. It warrants more care and precautions on part of patient like low salt diet, optimal weight, exercise and DASH diet. Swimming is not forbidden for subjects with pre-hypertension, if they are otherwise fit for it. Sincerely Sukhvinder
