Can I Take 'melatonin' To Improve Sleep Pattern?

I have difficulty falling asleep at night and always wake up at 3:00 AM and am awake for an hour or more before falling back asleep. I would like to try using melatonin. I am currently prescribed propanolol, valcylclovir, amitiza, and baby aspirin daily.

yes you can take but strictly with your doctor's advice and prescription. I am not aware why you are on other medicines you mentioned in the bottom line. But considering your sleep disturbance first it shoal be evaluated that it is primary insomnia or secondary means due to any other physical or psychiatric condition. If it is secondary primary treatment of the baseline problem should be taken. If it is primary insomnia, there are many medicines. Zolpidem, lorazepam, clonazapam like medicines generally used. Agomelatin is a newer on which is metabolite of melatonin. It can also be used. So first consult any psychiatrist and then start.
And ya I usually tell my patients to have a cup of warm milk before going to bed. It helps in 30 to 50 % patients and they do not require medicines.
