Can Insulin Shots Be Skipped If Sugar Level Is Normal?
Hello Doctor, I m 30 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes since last week and been on the insulin injection. After the first day of insulin my blood sugar level had returned to normal. Now at home i only give myself the shots before lunch and dinner and I skipped the before breakfast shot and I checked my blood sugar level before that and it showed normal range. So is it okay to skip on my insulin shots before breakfast completely?
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Diabetes is such a condition, which on medication controls sugar levels. But If stopped medication again bounce back. In normal individuals it can be tried with stopping medication during early days of diagnosis. But in pregnancy, I don't advice stopping insulin by your own at home. This should be done only by treating doctor only after checking serial sugar levels. So, please discuss this with your treating doctor. As of now I advice you to continue insulin.
Hope this guides you. Dr Phanindra Dulipala Diabetologist.
