Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has a SGPT of 160, which is up 30 points from 2008, and has been having a severe and increased issue with urgency of stool (very loose). Are the two issue likely to be related? We saw a GI doctor and have a colonoscopy ordered for the the end of the year.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, raised SGPT and loose motions are correlated. Chronic raised SGPT is sign of fatty liver related hepatitis. This is the cause for altered liver functions and raised SGPT. Liver produce digestive enzymes. So when functions of liver are hampered, digestion will be poor and hence diarrhoea occur. So if your husband is taking alcohol, he should stop alcohol immediately. If he is obese then he should reduce the weight. Don't worry, he will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
