Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern for your father. As per your history, your father had right side ischemic stroke (blood clot blocking artery and damaging brain). It is true that the dead area of brain will never recover. But artery blockade causes some area of brain permanently damaged (dead) and some area temporarily damaged (edema of surrounding brain). This temporarily damaged area of brain (edema) recovers with time.

Thus your father will improve with time. Another good thing about brain is the functions of dead brain area will be taken care by normal brain (It is known as brain plasticity). To enhance plasticity, your father requires

- Good physiotherapy and occupational therapy

- Family support and motivation

- cerebroprotective drugs can be taken like citicoline/edavarone/cerebroprotein hydrolysate after proper prescription.

- Give him good nutrition rich in protein, vitamin like paneer/milk/green vegetables/fruits/pulses/curd

- Neuron specific vitamin supplements like B12, thiamine, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid will also fasten recovery.

So do not be hopeless. Just wait and watch. The maximum recovery from ischemic stroke occurs in first 12 months. After this there is some recovery till 18 months and then it stops.

Hope it will help. Thanks.
