Can Neuropathy Be Right Diagnosis For Severe Earache?

I just came from the doctor s office. I have been having extremely hurtful ear aches. He examined me and said that everything was normal. (Before going to the doctor, I even went to my dentist and he took complete x-rays of all my teeth to be sure that they were not the cause.) I am a 20 year cancer survivor, so whenever the ENT doctor wanted to use a lighted instrument to go up inside my nose I asked him what was this procedure for. He said that he was looking for any tumors that could be causing this pain. I was so nervous that the thought of that instrument with a 12 inch flex tube, was going to be inserted into my nose that I began to cry. Finally he said that he would write a Rx for Neurontin. That I am to take the medicine and come back in 2 weeks. He said that it could be caused by neuropathy. Is that a true diagnosis for a real bad ear ache?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
You have given an elucidate history of the cancer, severe earache, Dentist's visit and ENT consultations.
f the ENT says you have normal ear, and if the pain still persists, it is better to get another opinion as the Neuropathy alone can not cause such a pain.
The most probable causes are:
Impacted molar which your Dentist has looked for.
TM joint arthralgia
Eustachian tube dysfunction
Any pathology in the pharynx particularly in the tonsillar area.
