Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad had an MI in aug 2013, he was lately hospitalized, RCA 100% occluded and calcified, left ventricular ef was 26% and he got severe mitral regurge, with medications and stenting for LAD and circumflex who were 80% blocked as well, his ef by 2d is now 45% and 55% by m-mode and his LVEDD and LVESD dimensions decreased by about 1 and 0.7 cm, is that considered an improvement? Can his heart have reverse remodelling and the MR impove is it came back to its size? Is his ef number overestimated because of MR? If yes tjen what is his real number?
Yes this is a great thing that your father EF is 45% and this is absolutely an improvement. But we have to wait some more times to see if reverse remodelling is happening (unfortunately this has low probability to happen).
The calculation of EF is based on parameters that MR has no effects on them.
Hope it answered to your query.
