Can Penicillin Antibiotics Cause Bright Orange Urination?
Hello, I was recently diagnosed with Strep Throat one week ago. I was taking penicillin twice a day. It seemed to be working for about 3 days. My mouth then started to get sore and some areas even swelled up pretty good. I went back to urgent care and they doubled my dose of penicillin to two pills a day twice a day. Two days later swelling and pain have both all gone down. The problem is that my urine is a bright orange color and this somewhat scares the hell out of me as this is not normal. I know I should see a doctor, but what kind?
Orange urine can be a symptom of urinary tract infection, dehydration or certain medications like antibiotics.Hence Penicillin can cause dark urine. You could also be dehydrated adding to more concentrated urine.
I would recommend you to increase fluid intake and in hours, urine will definitely be diluted and less dark in color. In case of any burning urination or blood in urine, urinary tract infections should be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
