My son is 10 years old. He will be 11 this December. Weight 100 - 105 pounds. Recently started taking Intuniv for ADHD. Also takes Prozac. Started Intuniv 1mg for one week. Now on 2mg for the past 4 days. He is active in sports/baseball. He suddnly had a nose bleed while playing baseball today. It was very warm outside he possibly got overheated. Is the nose bleed related to the heat or the medication?
IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THE NOSE BLEED WAS RELATED TO EITHER OF THESE TWO MEDICATIONS. SO REST ASSURED. NOSE BLEEDING, EPHISTAXIS , AS ITS TECHNICALLY CALLED, OCCURS WHEN THE SMALLEST BLOOD VESSELS IN THE NOSE(CAPILLARIES) RUPTURE. USUALLY THE BLEEDING IS SELF-LIMITED AND THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. STRENUOUS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HOT WEATHER CAN PRECIPITATE NOSE-BLEEDING. HOWEVER IT MUST BE REMEMBERED THAT THE NOSE-BLEED CAN RE-OCCUR. KINDLY TAKE AN OPINION FROM AN ENT SPECIALIST
