Can Second Mastectomy Remove The Tentacle From Bone Or Chemotherapy?
My wife is 71 years old and just had a mastectomy done on the left breast. The surgeon just said that the pathologist discovered that she still has more cancer that didn t show up on the Pet scan before the operation. The surgeon is giving her two options, one do another surgery and hopefully get all the tentacles of the cancer and take the muscle as well down to the ribs and bring muscle from the back area to cover the exposed ribs. Then they would like her to do more chemo and radiation on top of that. The other option is to first do the radiation and the chemo before doing the second operation. My question includes if she is operated on first and they find the tentacles of cancer has gone into the bone, would chemo or radiation make any difference? I d appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks Mr. Hawkins
It has not gone to the bone.. But probably into the muscles which are present between ribs.. If bone is involved it is not adviced to go for surgery. But these tentacles that doctor has told has been involved is just muscle involvement.. Surgey followed by chemoradiotherapy.. Or can undergo chemoradiation for now so that the tumour shrinks and can undergo surgery at a later stage.. The therapy is aimed at cure and hence do proceed with the same without hesitation.. Thank you
