Can Stress Cause Uncontrollable Breakout Of Acne?

i am 23 yrs old. i weigh 53 kgs and my height is 5'5''. From the past one month my acne has gone out of control.i did have acne on my face but not as much as now.my acne started 3 yrs ago.I also have dandruff. so the thought dandruff would be the reason. i consulted a doctor. he prescribed me benzac -AC gel in the morning, soradex for huge pimples and clenz in the night.the results were immediate. my acne got in control and i had a clear face.In may of this year i had a tooth infection, i was given moxikind cv625 and ibugesic plus.soon after that i started getting acne which was different, not the usual ones i used to get. they were granular and didnt pain.i consulted a different doctor. he gave me facelin for the morning and benzac- AC gel for the night.the acne is not being controlled.i have quite stressed lately. would that be a reason for the acne being uncontrollable.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

You seem to have an inflammatory flare of acne. Stress does seem to play a role in acne flare.
I normally also start oral antibiotics in addition to the topical treatment for acne.
Either Azithromycin Or Doxycycline Or Minocycline may be started to control the inflammatory flare. Oral antibiotics are antibacterial as well as antiinflammatory and therefore take better control of the inflammatory acne.
Besides Oral antibiotics, Oral retinoids are also an option for moderately severe to severe grade of acne. Retinoids are sebostatic, antiinflammatory as well as comedolytic in action.
Your topical treatment seems appropriate and I would suggest that you continue with it.
I would suggest that you follow up with your treating dermatologist every 2 weeks. Your doctor might add or modify treatment depending on the response.
For dandruff, you may try using an OTC antidandruff shampoo e.g Nizoral shampoo (contains ketoconazole), twice or thrice daily.

Regards
