Can Swelling Of Foot Be Due To Flu?

I am 35 old male in good general health. Since i was 21 i started having occasionally swollen foot or feet symptoms, usually in connection with a strong flu. In the beginning when i first started having these problems they were much more severe, but nowadays they last anywhere between few hours and few days. In steady state i feel a swelling sensation but no real pain, except when i stand up and try to walk. Then i have some pain and i also feel pressure in the swollen spot. I am afraid this could be caused by a lung or heart disorder. What would be your opinion? Thankful for the answer, Nenad

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. Honestly, a flu would not cause swelling and pains in the legs. This must have been a coincidence. More so, the fact that you cannot really see a swelling makes this association to be in some way linked to your mindset. There is no relation between a heart or lung problem and episodic leg swellings and pains associated with flu symptoms. I will suggest you get it examined during one of the crises so that the doctors can make a definitive diagnosis about this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications should need be.
