Can T Sleep At Night. Tried Ambien, Tramazepam And Lunesta. Suggestions?
I am past menopause. Can't sleep at night. Have tried Ambien (but my doctor says it shouldn't be used for long periods of time) tried Tramazepam (it's a wonderful sleeper but my doctor won't renew it because he says it should used for long periods of time) tried Lunesta (but I get to sleep and wake up 4 hours later) and I truly need to sleep. I think I need a new doctor. I live in the Milwaukee area. Went to two sleep studies and they recommend hypnosis...I work in hospitals and need my rest I don't need hypnosis. Recommend someone who can help.
Having a polysomnogram may be diagnostic of the primary insomnia or the insomnia secondary to the general medical condition or a mental health condition. I would also think that this would rule out obstructive sleep apnea. I would also recommend that you see a psychiatrist who can prescribe medications that can help with sleep difficulties as well, some suggestions include melatonin a natural supplement and a naturally occurring hormone that regulates the circadian rhythm and is available over the counter. Others include mirtazapine or trazodone or paxil which can help with sleep difficulties or even small doses of qutiapine. However these are only suggestions that you might want to present before your psychiatrist. Hope this helps.
Take care and have a lovely day!
