Can Tracheostomy Help An Unresponsive Patient?

My mom had a stroke 7 days ago. First a mild stroke, then a hemorage to the brain, then a heart attack. She is on a vent, but has been taken off of sedation. She has COPD. She was responsive after teh first stroke but not following commands. Has not been responsive since the hemorrage. Now off of sedation she opened her eyes once for a minute for my nephew who she is close too and fluttereed her eyes when her name was called. We will have to make a decision of a trach this week. Is there hope she can better if we do the trach?
