Chances Of Lung Collapse While Operating For The Colon Cancer?

hi my mother in law got abstraction in the colon,she was vomiting not eating,the doctor operate and open colon,when he opened he saw bad spreading of cancer he did not cut the abstracted part just opened a way to the stomac,then other doctor and hospital took her file the cancer doctor assure she has colon cancer with small metatas to lung and liver,said after operation he will act,when operation day came,water in the lung appeared and urine infection .the doctor refuse to operate fearing of her lung collapse from anesthesie.need your opinion?

Hi. From your description, it is a case of metastatic colon cancer with Pleural effusion (water in lungs). If the doctor is refusing to operate, it mean there is significant water in lungs. This may also be causing her difficulty in breathing. I suggest to do a pleural fluid drainage by passing chest tube and pleurodhesis (a procedure to fuse both coverings of lungs so that water can not accumulate between the them again). She should be considered for chemotherapy. Please discuss this option with your treating cancer specialist. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further question, I will be happy to help.
