Change In The Ovulation Cycle. Trying To Conceive. Breastfeeding. Are They Related?
Our first child was concieved during our first try. We ve started trying for our second child, but havent been successful in the past 3 attempts. I ve always had 28 day cycles but the past 3 have been only 26. Any ideas on possible causes? FYI I m still breastfeeding our two yr old but only once in the morning and once at night.
Hello, thanks for using Health Care Magic.
Normal menstrual cycle lasts from 21 to 35 days. It becomes a problem when its below 21 or above 35 or when it presents with large variations like 21 days for cycle 1, 35 days for cycle 2 etc. 26 days is a normal cycle length and mild variations in a few days is generally considered normal.
Sexual exposure is important in trying to conceive and it has to be effective with at least 4 times a week at least during the period with high chances of becoming pregnant. Even with people who have effective sexual exposure only slightly above 60% do become pregnant after one year.
Breastfeeding is a contraceptive method, but it is effective only when the breastfeeding is effective and when the woman has not yet seen her menses following delivery.
So, the breastfeeding of your child now has no effect on your fertility. However, what you need to do is to increase the number of exposures per week and soon you will become pregnant.
Wishing you all the best.
