Change In Voice, Soreness On Swallowing. Due To Strain?

Hi .... All of a sudden three weeks ago my voice changed. It sounds like I have a cold but I don't. When I go to talk sometimes I cannot get the right pitch from my voice...it feels like I have strained it. Generally it is not sore when I swallow but it has been sore on occassions. I know you are going to tell me to see my doctor which I am but I saw this site and thought I would ask. Thanks Sue

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Hoarseness can occur for a number of reasons. It is also known as laryngitis which is inflammation of the vocal cords. The most common reason is infection such as a viral infection.
It can also caused by (1) allergies such as a post nasal drip associated with allergic sinusitis (2) smoking (3)over use of the voice (4) excess alcohol use (5)GERD (gastroesophageal reflux) (6) some medications such as asthma inhalors

Since it has been going on for such an extended period , it would be best to be evaluated to determine the exact cause.

I hope this helps

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Soreness of voice - on swallowing - needs investigation to see oesophageal motility and reflux (GERD). An endoscopy can help in this.
ENT specialist can look at the cords easily..
Rest to the voice /sitting while and after eating can help.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
