Chest Pain. Done X-ray And CT Scan. Diagnosed As Pneumonia. Response?
I just had an xray and CT scan W+/or WO +Recon. I had gone to the ER d/t continued pain in left posterior chest + felt also in the anterior chest. They were looking for PE after R/O cardiac problems.. He diagnosed pneumonia, BUT said I can't R/O cancer. I have absolutely no symptoms of pneumonia. Is it possible that it could be valley fever since I've lived in Arizona about 40 yrs. Cancer doesn't run in my family. . . .yes, I realize that I could be the exception. Your response is appreciated. HC, RN,BSN (retired)
SOmetimes localized pneumonia and cancer can have similar xray signs, but CT should be able to determine this. it doesnt sound like cancer because you would have some other symptoms. Pain in chest is symtpms of pneuomina, it doesnt need to be associated with cough or fever and alos pneumonia can manifest with minor symptoms or it can be previously healed pneumonia which you didnt notice. It can be valley fever of course. Also some other lungs lesions such as amyloidosis or fybrouslesions can be considered. All you should do is to take antibiotic course and repear test after it. WIsh you good health.
