Child. Diagnosed With Rett Syndrome. Severe Pain In Stomach Following Seizures And Todd S Paralysis. Suggest

My daughter is 5 years old and has been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. She has seizures which result in Todd's Paralysis. I'm just wondering if it is typical to experience pain with Todd's Paralysis or following a seizure, as she has been complaining of stomach pain and cries out as if in terrible pain (which is very unusual for her).

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

It is very common to have Todd's paralysis following a seizure. It is not clear from your query if the pain in the abdomen is preceding the seizure or following the seizure. Pain preceding the seizure can be a premonition of the impending seizure. Post seizure pain can be due to over-activity of the muscles during a seizure. Nevertheless, it is better to get the child examined and investigated to rule out other possible causes.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Regards,
