Child. Swollen Tonsils. No Help From Antibiotics, Motrin And Benedryl. No Swelling In Lymph Nodes. Allergy?

My daughter, who is soon to be 5 years old, thrs has had swollen tonsils now for over a month. Family doctor gave antibiotics (10 day) and that did not help. Took her to Urgent Care they did a throat culture and it tested negative for strep. Everyone that looks at her tonsils can not believe how inflamed they are. Took back to family doctor and he told me to give her childrens Motrin to take down swelling. Have been giving that to her 2x a day now or 8 days and that has not worked. Spoke with a nurse at a b-day party today and she told me to give her childrens benedryl. She was shocked at how swollen they are too. Her lymph nodes are not swollen........she did check those and confirmed. I don't know what else to do?? Not sure if this is an allergy thing?? Food allergy?? She has not been eating anything out of the norm.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Strep is the only bacteria that causes an infection that requires an antibiotic so at least she doesn't need that. I suggest that they do a test for infectious mononucleosis as kids her age can catch that without really having enlarged lymph nodes. This blood test is easy to do and only takes about 10 minutes.
