Child Got Scraped By Rusty Wire. Applied Antiseptic And Band Aid. Should I See Doctor?
My son who is 5 got scraped by a rusty barbed wire. The scrapes dont appear to be deep and there is a little blood. At the time of the injury a passer by had an antiseptic wipe and band aid which were applied to the scapes (only 1 band aid so only one scrape is covered) we are on our way home now what's the best way to handle the wounds now and what should I watch for from this point on? Should I take him to his doctor (we are in Hong Kong so would need to be tomorrow morning)and my son is up to date on all immunization s
Cleaning the wound and keeping it dry is the mainstay of management. As antiseptic and band aid has been applied nothing need to be done now expect to ensure that it remains dry. Soon a crust will form over it. It is good that your son is immunized.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
If your child is up to date on immunization he does not need a Tetanus toxoid or else he requires one. (did he have his booster dose of DPT that has to be given at 5 years)
If you think it is a very minor wound then you can wait and watch.
If the wound is big you should consult your doctor.
Also consult your doctor if there are any features of infection like swelling, fever etc
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
