Thanks for posting your query here at healthcaremagic.

Blood in stools ongoing for a period of 4 months or so does definitely need further investigations.

You have not mentioned whether it is fresh blood or altered-dark brown coloured blood in stools. Does he have any other symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, poor weight gain or weight loss etc?

Depending on whether it is fresh blood or altered blood, he needs further investigations including local examination to rule out fissure/hemorrhoids. He may need Scan of his abdomen and may need dye test of bowel (either Barium meal or Enema based on stool colour.

I understand your concerns, but certain investigations are definitely needed to rule out other causes leading to blood in stools when it is ongoing for few months.

Hope I have been able to guide you further in your query.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

If this is going on since long time he requires further investigations.

Most probably he might have had repeated courses of antibiotics by now.

I think a local examination of the anal region followed by rectoscopy and if required colonoscopy will help in identifying the cause.

Was that fresh blood associated with the stool or is it altered blood?

Do you see any drops of blood associated with stool?

Please reply so that we can help you better.
Take care.
