Child Has Diarrhea. Has Watery Stools With Foul Smell. Reason?

12 month old daughter has been sick over the last few days with a mild fever, some vomiting, and severe diarrhea. her stools are watery and bright yellow/ bright green. Shes having about 8-10 per day. Today her stools smell like tuna. The smell filled up the whole room. She is not vomiting anymore and fever has diminished but still having the diarrhea. What could be the cause of the smell?

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Your child is having gastroenteritis.
The cause for diarrhea is mostly a virus.
The mainstay of treatment id to maintain hydration of the child.
Hydration cab be maintained by giving oral rehydration solutions like Pedialyte, coconut water, lemon water in amounts equal to the losses in loose stools. Give sip by sip.
Monitor hydration by activity, urine output, and skin turgor.
If any signs of dehydration appears, try to give more pedialyte and consult your Pediatrician.
Probiotic and zinc will help to reduce the diarrhea.
The smell of stool is due to the infection.
