Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Child Has Dyslexia. MRI Shows Arachnoid Cyst. Connected To Dyslexia?
Hi my 13 year old son has a diagnosis of Dyslexia. He is extremely bright but has poor working memory and will forget words even though he read them two sentences before. He finds it hard to recall words. At times however he does do ok but again the next day it is as if it is the first time he is reading the word. He just had an MRI done and he has a small arachnoid cyst in the posterior cranial fossa just to the right of the midline. It is 25 x 7.5 x 20mm in size and causes only mild mass effect upon the posteromedial apsect of the righ cerebellar hemisphere and there is shallow scalloping of the occipital bone. Apart from that the MRI seems normal. Could there be a connection with his dyslexia. He also still bed wets at least once a week. Is very fidgety and chews small items.
When was dyslexia diagnosed and what was the indication for MRI? The MRI findings have to be correlated clinically to know if there is any ataxia or postural imbalance. It is very unlikely that the cyst is the cause for dyslexia.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
