hello dear
thanks for your query at HCM
antibiotics are not routinely recommended in diarrhea in pediatric age group
they are only if there is suspicion of shigella, typhoid or cholera infection.
doctor might have have suspected above infection or any bacterial infection in body and added antibiotic to your child
main treatment in your child is hydration, proper hydration can be by oral or parentral way. give as much as water boy can drink.
1 take on ors sachet mix in water and give to child when ever child passes stools.
2 give sporlac or econorm sachet mixed in water or milk daily two times a day
3 donot stop feeeding child or make him starve
4 continue same feeds that your giving to child either breast milk or feeds
5 zinc syrup with 200mg ( 20 mg per kg) once daily for 14
this will help your son
regards

What antibiotics is being given to your child.yes a toddler can be given antibiotics wen needed.side effects depends on type, route, dose and number of days of antibiotic given.in diarrhoea wen there is severe dehydration thn iv fluid is given to baby.every iv fluid is not glucose.plz mention what type of fluid is being given to your baby.again the dose depends on how many times the baby is passing stool, wat is his dehydration status and wat is his oral acceptance.
