Child Has Patch Of Red On The Back Of Mouth, Complains Only About Sore Throat. I Have Sore Throat, Fever, Ear Pain. Problem?

My almost 4 year old son has this big patch of red on the roof/back of his mouth. He is not complaining other than a sore throat. I, however, have a very sore throat with a few white patches, fever, swollen glands, ear ache, neck pain and loss of appetite. I am heading to the doctor later today, but was wondering if I should also get him checked out or wait until he is seriously complaining or gets a fever.
