Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son, who will be 1 on Aug.2, has spiked another fever >101 for the third time in six weeks. Each fever lasting longer than 5 days and reaching up to 105. The first incident he vomitted for 13 days straight. He was a breast fed baby until 10 months. Now using formula. Doesn't go to day care but to the gym child watch often while I exercise. I'm concerned about this recurrent fever or viral issue?
They usually associated with focal symptoms such as cold, cough, sore throat.
But urinary tract infection and ear infection should be ruled out by doing ear examination and giving urine for complete urine examination.
Consult the pediatrician for general and physical examination and for investigations such as smear for malaria, complete blood picture, and complete urine examination.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
Recurrent fever with such high spikes should be investigated.
After a physical examination investigations like CBC, CRP, Urine routine, etc should be done. If the child continues to vomit then antiemetics as prescribed by your doctor should be given. If the vomiting is not controlled then he may require intravenous fluids.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Child Has Recurrent Fever, Vomiting. Concerned
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Recurrent fever is due to frequent infections with viral, upper respiratory tract infections. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
