Child With Pain And Fever After Vaccination. Reddish Swelling On The Thigh. Is This Normal?

I had taken my son who is 19 months for his vaccination on 23rd May. The vaccination given was Combined Vaccine - DPT,HBV,HIB and Hep A along with OPV. He had pain and slight fever for which I gave him paracetamol drops. Yesterday I noticed a redness and sweeling on the inner thigh. he is moving arond without a problem. slight warmth still remains. Is this normal?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

The regular DPT vaccine does give rise to fever and pain at the site of injection for 2-3 days. You could continue giving PCM drops.

However if the site of injection is swollen and painful to touch then get him examined by his doctor to rule out abscess formation.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

That redness and swelling could be because of infection. You need to get your kid examined by your doctor.

If that is because of infection antibiotics may be required.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

hello,
thank you for using health care magic,
fever is normal after vaccination til few days.. continue paracetamol drops..
redness is also normal for few days but if there is swelling or absces or redness continue for longer then consult pediatrician... it can be because of faulty method of vaccination of infection of vaccinated site..
