Cold, Cough With Dark Brown Mucous. Diagnosed Tracheitis. Prescribed Amoxicillin. Suggestions?

Hi, I ve had a bad cold for 5 days now, and today the general symptoms have begun to ease. However I still have no voice to speak of (no pun intended), and I have started to cough up almost solid fleshy dark brown mucus . I saw an on call GP who diagnosed tracheitis, and prescribed amoxicillin , but when I have looked this up online I can t see any mention of dark brown mucus in relation to tracheitis. Should I make an appointment to see my own GP, or should the mess prescribed shift whatever I ve got?

I have gone through your query regarding throat infection with loss of voice and cough with dark brown sputum.

Considering your complaints and co-relating them with possibilities of pathological process may be going on it appears as you are suffering from acute respirtory tract infection with laryngitis. this is bacterial infection as sputum is dark brown in colour.

Here few basic investigations are necessary for you like-

(a) X-Ray Chest - P.A. view.

(b) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

(c) X-Ray of paranasal sinuses (0ccipitomental view).

By these investigations and a thorough examination one can reach to correct diagnosis and that may be plan for treatment.
