Could Extreme Pain In The Sides Of Ribs Be Pleurisy? What Else Besides Gas-X And Tums Is Recommended?

I have been having pains in my side under my ribs for nearly 2 weeks now. I thought it might've been gas, but it was not relieved with Gas-X, Tums, or even an enema. I went to the ER because i was in so much pain, They relieved the pain with no explanation as to what the problem could be except for Left Flank pain. There was no trauma to the site whatsoever so I'm unsure as to what this could be. I've had several opinions as to what this could be such as Pleurisy etc., but there's no pain when breathing. By the way ER did a CAT scan with everything clear. Can U offer an explanation?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This is not Pleurisy. Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura or more simple chest cavity inflammation. The main symptoms are cough, pain while breathing, shortness of breath, FEVER. So please forget about this diagnose.
Upper left abdominal pain is most likely caused by stomach issues like peptic ulcer. It is very common that all regular tests (including CT) are negative with this condition.
That is why I suggest you to have gastroscopy done as a next step.
If your pain radiates to the back, also gallstones should be considered. Gallstones are usually invisible for CT, and abdominal ultrasound can show its presence.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
