Could The Oral Thrush Be Due To Contraceptive Pills?
Hi. I was diagnosed with oral thrush yesterday- I am wondering if I got this because I recently started birth control pills? I took two doses because I missed one and the next day my tongue was swollen. I am 24 female with no other medical conditions.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms Oral contracptives plays a major role in causing overgrowth of candida albicans fungus leading to Oral Thrush which is formation of cheesy white patches over the surface of tongue. This happens due to increased level of estrogen after taking birth control pills.
Nothing to worry, consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if Oral Thrush is diagnosed he/she can advise you to gargle with anti-fungal mouthwash like Nystatin mouthwash, take Clotrimazole lozenges and take more of probiotics like Youghurt and garlic.
You should also consult your Gynaecologist and get evaluated and she can either change the medicine or alter the dose to prevent recurring episodes of thrush.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
