Could The Scar Left From Thumb Surgery Be Part Of The Stitches Under The Skin ?
i broke my thumb and I recently had surgery about a little over a month ago. My scars scabs fell off and all that is left is a scar except for a little piece, of what it looks to be, a wire of some sort. it is very small about 2 centimeters. I was told it might have been part of the stitches under the skin and this part did not dissolve properly but i am not sure.
After reading your query it appears to be simple "K wire" which is used in repair of bones. IN most of thumb repair surgeries K wire is used as an important repairing and joining agent. Your doctor must have used the same. You can ask your treating and operating surgeon for the same.
If at all it is visible then it can be cut deeply so that it should not be visible on the skin. DO not worry it will be alright after proper guidance of your treating surgeon.. Take care.
Hi if scar is left due to surgery there will be always gaping of injured site and it can become source of infection.i do no think it is normal skin of the thumb i think it is only scar tissue after surgery. Use of hexilak silicone gel twice daily and cute e tablets once daily can cure the condition.if no response within 3 months reopen the wound and see for extra tissue embedded
