Could Urinary Infection Be Due To Spread Of The Malignancy In Pelvic Region?

Doctor,My mother has been diagnosed with advanced malignancy in the pelvic region, lymph nodes, small bowel and stomach. She was operated upon last month but due to her age (she is 82) and the extensive spread, only the tumour in the pelvic region could be removed. The lymph nodes are still there. She has developed a UTI since yesterday with the urine analysis showing plenty of pus cells. What I would like to know is whether this infection is in anyway connected to or the result of the spread of the malignancy in that region.Thank you.
