Cut Nails, Bleeding, Infection, Became Worse, Treated For Cellulitis. Common Infection?

I cut my nails down to the point it was bleeding which later became infected. The infection became worse and was treated for cellulitis . It was treated with an antibiotic shot and went away in a few days. I have never had this before and concerned it may be related to something more serious. Is this type of infection common?
