Diabetic. Having Glynase MF In The Morning And Night. No Improvement In Sugar Levels. Insulin Required?
Sir my father is aged about 66 years and is a diabetic since 2001. his present weight is 71 kgs and height is 5 feet 5 inches. currently he is having Glynase MF (Glipizide IP-5mg and Metformin Hydrocloride-500mg) 1 tablet before breakfast and 1 tablet before dinner. But despite that his present sugar levels are Fasting-125 and After food-228. Please suggest me how to bring is sugar levels down to normal. Does he require insulin?
Dear sir Thanks for your query to us. These levels are not pretty out of range. However, they are not good targets for the diabetes control at your fathers age. Ideally you must get HbA1C levels done and then a management decision should be taken. Beside Any end organ complication of diabetes itself is an indication for starting insulin. I would recommend you to get HbA1C levels and then seek an appointment with physician to decide the issue. Sincerely Sukhvinder
