Diabetic, Neuropathy. Taking Glimfirst Mp2 Forte. Are There Side Effects?

Hi Doctor, I am Rimi, my mother is a diabetic , age is 50 ,I just want to check whether the tablet Istamet 50/500 recommended to her by her doctor is good enough for her? her recent reports shows FBS/PLBs - 134/217, previuosly she was taking glimfirst mp2 forte, which was working good for her, since her sugar was down from 350 to 217, so i dont understand why has she changed the tablet? I was just reading side effects of Istamet 50/500 which are huge as her many more tablets are also on ,Also she has problem of neuropathy in her foots, I can send you prescription if you need for details,So i am lil worried for her. please help. Thanks Rimi

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Since previously she was taking glimipride + metformin .Now prescribed istamet ( sitagliptin+metformin), this is a new drug . The side effects which you saw , are rare side effects , so need not to worry .
After prolong use the drugs for a diabetic patient have to change.
Your treating doctor is very intelligent and in time, changed the drug.
So please wait for sometime and new drug will adjust . This is most potent drug for diabetes.
Good luck. Dr. HET
